I’ve lived and worked here for decades, and I’m still discovering new things about the area—and all that it has to offer. Here’s a taste of what I’ve learned about some of my favourite Niagara communities!
A growing number of Ontarians are deciding to call Niagara-on-the-Lake home. This historic wine country town comprises five distinct communities, each one with its own unique charm.
Old Town Niagara-on-the-Lake is the very definition of idyllic. Along with its beautiful homes (including many built in the 19th century), this district is known for its majestic streetscapes.
From stylish boutiques and dining hotspots to quaint country inns and horse-drawn carriages, it doesn’t get more charming than Old Town. Local highlights include the area’s breathtaking green spaces, iconic Queen Street, and the renowned Shaw Festival Theatre.
At the base of the Niagara Escarpment (a short, scenic 13-km drive from Old Town), you’ll find the sleepy village of Queenston. This quiet, friendly community is a nature lover’s dream. One of its best features is a leisurely bicycle path that traverses vineyards, fruit farms, and world-class wineries.
Easy access to the Bruce Trail and Queenston Heights Park makes the area perfect for hikers and dog walkers, while the local boat launch is ideal for water sports enthusiasts who want to make the most of the Lower Niagara River. Located a stone’s throw from the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge, this little pocket is appealing to those seeking proximity to the US.
If you’re looking for a place that’s tight-knit and family-friendly, consider St. David’s. This Niagara-on-the-Lake enclave boasts a strong sense of community and a fantastic mix of homes, including new builds, heritage houses, and farms. You’ll also find a number of tasteful, well-appointed subdivisions.
Between the local elementary school, stunning Niagara Escarpment views, and convenient location (residents enjoy proximity to the QEW and Niagara Falls), St. David’s is perfect for families looking to put down roots.
Virgil is a growing community that provides a great lifestyle. With its competitive home prices, proximity to beloved Old Town, and quick highway access, there’s a lot of value to be found here.
If you’re looking for the perfect place to call home, you’ll have plenty of options—from mature subdivisions to brand new houses to well-established farms. Grocery stores, shops, restaurants, and the local arena and sports park all make Virgil an ultra-convenient place to live!

Fort Erie, which sits along the southern shore of the Niagara Peninsula, is a fast-growing area steeped in natural beauty.
Known for its white-sand beaches and spate of recent development, the area is a wonderful place to live—and invest. Here are two of the local communities I love most.
This small cottage community is home to a wealth of quaint shops, buzz-worthy eateries, and new residential developments. The area’s relaxed pace of life and Lake Erie sunsets make it a favourite among those seeking an everyday escape. Thanks to its sandy beaches, it’s also a major draw for boaters and lake surfers.

Ridgeway has a lot to offer. Just a quick drive from the shores of Lake Erie, this lovely village has a friendly, unassuming feel. It’s also incredibly vibrant, from its idyllic Main Street to its lively local businesses. Boutiques, restaurants, micro-breweries, art galleries, spas—they’re all here, waiting to be explored.
Buyers in Ridgeway will find a wonderful combination of historic homes and cottages, along with brand new developments surrounded by pastoral farmland.
